One of the best times to enjoy the beauty of nature is in the spring. As trees sprout new leaves and the flowers bloom around you, consider going green this spring. With just a bit of effort, you can greatly reduce your impact on the environment so that every spring is as beautiful as the last.

Say No to Junk Mail

Think about the sheer volume of junk mail you receive each day. Your mailbox is probably packed full with numerous credit card applications, store advertisements, and random flyers that you will never read. In many cases, this junk mail is simply thrown into the trash without much thought.

Instead of clogging up a landfill with all of that unwanted junk mail, attempt to cut down on the amount you receive. Register with DirectMail and they will work to remove your name for the numerous mailing lists that are floating around. As there are likely thousands of these lists that contain your mailing address, it might take a few months for you to notice a decrease the amount of junk mail you receive.

Invest in Green Companies

You can profit from going green by investing in environmentally friendly companies. By investing in green companies, you are helping to support groups that strive to be socially responsible. If your employer offers a 401k, look to see if there are options to include green companies in your portfolio.

Get Rid of your Gas-Powered Lawnmower

Gas-powered lawnmowers are terrible for the environment. Unlike the cars we drive, the government does not have the same types of regulations that restrict gas-powered lawnmower engines. Go green by investing in a push lawnmower that has no motor at all! Not only is this type of lawnmower less expensive than its gas-powered counterpart, you will also be able to get some great exercise while pushing it.

Stop Buying Bottled Water

While it might be delicious to drink, bottled water is not good for the environment. Count up the number of cases of bottled water you purchase each year. That’s a whole lot of empty bottles that end up in the landfill if they are not properly recycled. Go green this spring by drinking filtered water instead.

Bottled water provides us with a convenient way to transport this drink. If you want to carry your water in something other than a glass, invest in an aluminum water jug. This is a great way to keep your water cool and you won’t have to worry about breaking it.

Pick Environmentally Friendly Plants for your Garden

You can go green this spring by adding a few plants to your garden. Believe it or not, there are a handful of plants that actually help to reduce the pollutants in the air. Even if you do not consider yourself to be a green thumb, there are several easy to grow plants that will improve the environment. Consider planting peace lilies or some English ivy. Both of these plants are suitable for container gardens as well.
