This particular version of the book, published in August of 2009, has been updated to include a large selection of color photographs. With 408 pages bursting with information, just about any question you have about self sufficient living is answered here.
To start the reader off, Seymour discusses the meaning of a self sufficient lifestyle. The author discusses the different methods that everyone can use to adopt this type of lifestyle, in addition to covering our impact on the environment.
The next section of The Self-Sufficient Life and How to Live It covers a very important for any homesteader: gardening. Not only does Seymour discuss gardening, he discusses it in meaningful detail. The author also talks about the different vegetables that you should grow for each of the seasons. He also provides the reader with an excellent troubleshooting section covering the different pests and diseases that can disturb your garden.
If you are serious about a self sufficient lifestyle, chapter 3 will be an important one to read. Seymour talks about the different types of animals (pigs, goats, chickens, sheep, beef, and even rabbits) that you may want to raise for food.
Towards the end of The Self-Sufficient Life and How to Live It, there is a fun chapter that covers the art of beer brewing and wine making! Seymour also includes useful chapters about conserving energy, learning how to be crafty, and a variety of other things you need to know in order to succeed with your self sufficient lifestyle
