Every gardener relies on a variety of tools and accessories to keep their space looking spectacular. As spring time is rapidly approaching it is time to dust off these supplies and get ready to start planting!
Number 1 – Kneeling Pad
It doesn’t matter how big your garden is. At some point you’re going to end up on your knees in order to get rid of a few weeds or harvest some fresh fruit. Save your knees some pain by investing in a kneeling pad. They are inexpensive and durable and a worthy addition!
Number 2 – Garden Tool Bag
The next time you walk around your garden take a tool bag with you. These handy tool bags have plenty of room to store pruners, tags, tapes, stakes, and whatever other kind of accessories you might need.
Number 3 – Journal
Every gardener should have a simple journal to keep track of their plants. Take notes about when you plant each of the seeds in your garden. This will help you better keep track of when to harvest your crop too. You can also add notes about pests and diseases you encounter throughout the growing season to better prepare for the next one!
Number 4 – Moisture Meters
Sometimes, especially in a mature garden, it can be hard to determine if the soil is moist enough for your plants. A moisture meter has a convenient probe that you insert into the soil. The meter will actually tell you how moist the soil is below the visible surface layer.
Number 5 – Mosquito Repellant
There is nothing worse than dealing with mosquitoes while you garden. If you don’t want to use one of the commercial mosquito repellants that are available consider planting some lemon balm in your garden. Simply take the leaves of your lemon balm plant and rub them on your skin to repel annoying mosquitoes!
Number 7 – Sun Indicator
How many times have you stared at your garden and wonderd how much sun it actually receives. If you really want to know if its sun, or sun/part shade, a sun indicator will certainly help.
Number 8 – Compost Bin
To really enjoy the self sufficient life to its fullest a compost bin can really go along way. Not only will a compost bin help you eliminate wastes from your home and garden, it can create nutrient-rich soil for your garden. This means bigger yields from your crops!
Number 9 – Rain Barrels
A happy, fruitful garden will require water in order to thrive. A great way to efficiently keep your garden soil moist is by investing in a rain barrel. Simply place a rain barrel at the bottom of your gutter and let it fill with water during your next rainfall!
Number 10 – Pruners
Having a good pair of pruners on hand while you garden is essential. Whether you want to clip off a few roses or remove a dead branch, make sure to keep a pair of these on hand!
